Still trying to reconstitute my creative life from its dehydrated, broken, post-move, husk. In the meantime, I finished the line work for this self-portrait that I’m planning to use on my website. To be colored…soonish.
What is the origin of "Memenaar"?
I had to think about this one for a second, it’s been so long now.
Back in…early highschool? I wrote a really awful short fantasy story for a creative writing assignment. In it were three brothers: Galgoran, Aadarin, and Memenaar. Afterwards, I ended up using all three as handles in different places online, particularly for characters in online games.
Way later, when I was making a Tumblr to put drawings on, I decided it might be a good idea to use a nickname that stands out. My first name is ridiculously common, and I’ve learned over the years that my last name is impossible for people to spell (even without the dozens of variations that exist on it). Memenaar seemed the least gratuitously fantasy, and stood out the most to me, so I just went with it, and consolidated across Twitter and dA.
I guess throwing in a nickname like that when I also use my real name everywhere might seem weird, but it’s become habit at this point, and not doing it would feel weirder.
#The Divine Alchemy
Mhinnick: The Silver City. The Tallest Tree with the Deepest Roots. Land and Lord of the Dead.
The gray men who live in its shadow and gird themselves in bone bring tribute — not in fear, but reverence. Silver, left to the guardians at the gate, with which the dead gilt the city’s walls, spires, and the stairs to Death Itself.
The true city is said to be a necropolis sprawling impossibly deep beneath the earth, unseen by mortal eyes.
#Kirby's Dream Land
#Kirby's Dream Zine
Here’s a piece I put together this weekend for submission to Ashley Davis’ Kirby Zine. Kirby is just astonished at what a scrub Waddle Dee is.
It’s been over a month since I coloured anything. Eesh!
I’m going to be going through a big move at the end of this month, as well as working on an actual website/an actual comic/redoing this ugly tumblr/coloring some of those Inktobers drawings/etc., etc., etc., so this blog might be quiet for long periods of time, but I’ll try and get something up here and there.
Inktober #18 - Octopus
Some cool artists were drawing themselves as cartoon animals, and I wanted to hop that bandwagon, so here we are I guess.
I’ve never played an Octodad game, but I imagine that it looks a lot like my biography would.
